Youth After-School Program Procedures

After-School Check-In

Students attending a Community Education class immediately after the school day will report to their designated check-in location:

Grades K-2

Schumann Cafeteria

Grades 3-5

Intermediate Cafeteria

Community Education signage will be available at each location so students can easily identify where to meet.

A Community Education staff member will check students in and assist them in getting to their scheduled class.

Parent/Caregiver Pick-Up

Parents or caregivers can pick up curbside at door E24 of the Education Link. Students will be escorted by their instructor to the pick-up loop, once colder weather begins students will wait in the entryway until their ride arrives. Unless notified of a different pick-up location, this will be the general pick-up spot for after-school programs.  See campus map below.

Absences & Communication

If your child will not be attending their scheduled after-school class, parents and caregivers must notify:

• Your child’s teacher
• Your child’s school office
• Orono Community Education

Please contact Community Education directly if your child will be absent. Notifying the school or classroom teacher does not serve as notification to Community Education.

This helps our staff accurately account for students expected at after-school check-in.

Non-School Day Classes

Procedures are slightly different for Community Education classes held on days when school is not in session.

Classes at Schumann Elementary or Intermediate School

Parents and caregivers should:

1. Enter through Door E24 in the Education Link.
2. Bring their student directly to the scheduled classroom.
3. Return to the classroom to pick up their student at the end of class.

Classes at the Orono Discovery Center

Please use the Discovery Center main entrance for both drop-off and pick-up.

Parents and caregivers are responsible for bringing students directly to their classroom and returning to the classroom for pick-up.

Your ARUX registration confirmation and reminder will include the specific classroom location for your child’s class.

Cancellations

If you need to drop a class, please notify us at 952-449-8350 as soon as you know. Up to three business days prior to the class start date, a refund minus a $10 cancellation fee will be issued. After that time, no refunds will be issued. Partial refunds will be considered if injury or serious illness occurs. Some programs have a more specific refund policy. If Community Education needs to cancel a class, we will contact you and process a full refund.

Weather Cancellations

If school closes during the day due to inclement weather, Community Education will cancel all afternoon and evening activities. Announcements will be broadcast over local media. You may also call the Community Education office at 952-449-8350 for a recorded message.
